DIY - Healthy Muesli

Muesli is healthy and perfect for a good start to the day! Unfortunately, conventional supermarket products often contain large amounts of sugar. If you want to avoid consuming all that extra added sugar, you can easily make your own muesli.

Another advantage to making your own muesli is that you can choose to add your favourite ingredients and tailor it to suit your taste. Filled in glass jars and nicely labelled, it also make a great gift!

Here we decided to use oat flakes as the base - but you can also use spelt or other cereal flakes. It becomes even tastier if you add dried fruits such as apricots, berries or apples. Nuts are also a valuable addition to your power muesli mix!

In addition, muesli with oat flakes, local fruit & nuts is totally regional and therefore more sustainable than some supermarket alternatives.

Basic recipe for homemade muesli

Ingredients:
- 300g oat flakes
- 100g nuts
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 pinch of salt
- 100g coconut oil
- 150g honey
- Dried fruits to taste

Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (top and bottom heat) and line a tray with parchment paper.
Chop or grind the nuts and mix with all dry ingredients (oat flakes, cinnamon, salt). Add the coconut oil together with the honey in a saucepan and let it melt slowly over low heat, stirring often. As soon as the coconut oil and honey are thoroughly mixed, pour it over the oatmeal mixture and mix well. Then fold in the dried fruits and spread it all out on the tray. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes. Turn the mixture over and put it back in the oven. When it is lightly browned, take it out. Let it cool completely before storing it in an airtight container and your breakfast for tomorrow is ready!

Tip: It's better to make this crunchy muesli in small batches because it only stays fresh for a few weeks. It is best stored in a cool, dark place in an airtight container.

There are many different options and ingredients that you can add to your muesli.
Those who like it more fruity can add dried physalis, berries and other fruits, for example. Combined with almonds, the muesli is really filling and satisfying. Others may prefer chocolate chips and hazelnuts or, for a tropical touch, add coconut chips and dried mangoes!

You can enjoy your favourite muesli for breakfast or at work - but it is also perfect as a school snack for the kids. So grab your favourite ingredients and make your own good morning mix for a great start to the day!
